Melissa Richardson

PhD, LCPC, Psychotherapist

Both personally and professionally, I feel a natural inclination to connect with and help others. I believe that, because nobody’s life is perfect, we all need some extra support at times. This perspective is what keeps me motivated and driven to do the work that I do.

I have been providing therapeutic services to individuals, groups, and families since 2008. My experience includes non-profit, school-based, and private practice work. With an approach that is trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based, I strive to create a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients. I believe in collaborating with clients and working with them to identify areas in which they seek change and learn how to develop and use personal strengths and resources to make positive change possible. In addition, I focus on helping clients adopt healthy and effective coping strategies to manage stress and empowering them to self-manage and self-advocate.

In order to provide care that is appropriate, respectful, and effective for all my clients, I am committed to making an ongoing effort to be knowledgeable and mindful of the influence that cultural, social, and political factors can have on a person’s experiences and to be self-aware of these influences in my own life. I have experience working with a diverse group of individuals and communities and welcome clients from any race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality identity.
