At Agave Studio of Psychotherapy, we believe in the therapist as a whole self. This means that we think therapists do their best work when they are well supported and free to be themselves in the therapy room. We take your success, care and growth seriously. If you are interested in being a part of group therapy practice that prioritizes the needs of the individual therapists, we may be the spot for you.

We are on the mission to provide the best quality holistic care in Chicago. We have partnerships with organizations throughout the city who send their people our way. We need kind, brave, and caring clinicians to join our team.

Student Training

Every year we accept one to two interns/externs to join our team. The training experience is designed to meet Illinois requirements for Master’s level and Doctoral level trainees. For this position, we seek individuals who understand their unique skills and opportunities for growth, who want to be part of a larger community of healers, and who love the city and people of Chicago. As supervisors, we strive to support and nurture our trainees into the best clinicians they can be.

Qualifications

  • The applicant should be in good standing in a Master's or Doctoral degree program in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy. Associated fields will be considered as long as they involve clinical/therapeutic training.

  • Some clinical experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Ideal applicants will be flexible, self-motivated, open to feedback, able to work independently with support from supervisors and staff, and have natural strengths in rapport building.

  • Students are expected to maintain the highest level of ethics and professionalism at all times.

Program Details

  • The placement is typically 9-12 months long depending on school requirements, and typically begins July 1st. Trainees typically have caseloads of approximately 10-15 clients per week, and are on site approximately 20 hours per week. These requirements can be negotiated according to school requirements and student needs.

  • Students are expected to participate in weekly group supervision, individual supervision, practice-wide group supervision and trainings, and off site rotations at a community legal center and our nonprofit.

  • Testing opportunities are also available for doctoral students who have previously completed a testing practicum. We typically do not provide training in assessment without students also carrying a small therapy case load. However, we are happy to consider exceptions for students who are a particularly good fit for our site.

Application Details

  • Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation (2-3), and a transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). Applicants may include a writing sample and/or photo if they wish, but are not required to do so.

  • Our application process follows the ACEPT timeline. The application will open at the link below January 26, 2024 and close February 9, 2024. If we do not fill all of our open training positions, the application will re-open March 20, 2024.
